PolyPlexx is a member-owned, West Virginia small business founded in 2005 by scientists who bring to the company numerous years of experience in industrial research and applications development.
PolyPlexx is developing a family of core products based on new, high performance, clear polyurethanes. The focus of the business is to develop, patent and license technology to interested partners, as opposed to becoming a manufacturing company.
Technology Focus
Hard, impact-resistant, clear polymers have been available for a number of years. Examples include Lexan® (polycarbonate), Lucite® (polymethyl-methacrylate) and a few others. Polycarbonates are considered state-of-the-art polymers for many applications requiring clarity and toughness and are well known for their impact characteristics.
As good as these existing polymers are, there is a need for materials with improved performance, particularly in the areas of solvent resistance, better overall clarity, improved impact resistance and better stress/solvent crazing performance. The major goal of current R&D activities at PolyPlexx is the definition of clear, tough polymers with improved properties in these key areas.
